Collection: Fischer Pianos

Fischer pianos, produced by the J. & C. Fischer Piano Company, have a rich history dating back to 1840 when the company was established by brothers John and Charles Fischer in New York City. Known for their exceptional craftsmanship and beautiful case designs, Fischer pianos quickly became one of the most successful piano brands in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The company originally began under the name Nunns & Fischer but changed to J. & C. Fischer after William Nunns retired in 1840. By 1896, Fischer was producing nearly 5,000 pianos annually and had celebrated the production of its 100,000th piano. Their instruments were highly regarded for their fine tonal qualities and robust construction, making them a preferred choice among musicians and institutions.

Fischer pianos were well-known for their elaborate Victorian and Art Deco designs, often featuring intricate wood carvings and high-quality materials. Notable historical moments include architect Frank Lloyd Wright designing an acoustically correct room specifically to showcase a J. & C. Fischer piano during the Art Deco period.

The company continued to innovate and produce pianos until it was purchased by the Aeolian-American Piano Corporation during the Great Depression. The brand was later acquired by Wurlitzer and then Baldwin, with Fischer pianos eventually being manufactured in China and sold as Asian imports.
