"If we will listen, they are teaching the gospel, for the hymns of the Restoration are, in fact, a course in doctrine!”
-- President Boyd K. Packer
Having students learn the hymns not only helps their growth in musicality, but it focuses our motto of being a Christ-centered Conservatory. Every week the students work on hymns with their technique teacher. Hymns are the best way to teach musicality along with inspiration. It is through this combination that we get well-rounded students who can FEEL and play technically. During their first hymn, the students learn how to move through different positions more comfortably, as well as learn how to play with the pedal correctly and enhance their ability to sight-read music. The students also learn how to phrase and voice a melodic line that will transfer to their solo repertoire. The hymns help us build our technical background, as well as come closer to Christ through their sounds and their words. Here's to a more fulfilling way to learn musicality and technique!
