The Alexander Family Piano!

The Alexander Family Piano!

I grew up playing the piano from the time I was about 8 years old until I graduated high school in 1999. I always played my great-grandfather's old Chickering Bros. upright piano, and I loved to play in recitals and piano competitions growing up. Once I entered college, I sort of fell away from playing all that much. I moved on to other things: being a full-time middle school Social Studies teacher, wife, and mother. When my son was very young, he loved to bang around on a different old upright family piano, one that belonged to my other great-grandfather. Now that he is older (8!) he has truly discovered a love for music and playing piano. It has caused me to revisit my roots and start learning to play all over again. My husband has also joined in the fun and is learning to play for the first time ever! Music has run in my family for generations, and I am so excited to pass this love on to my son, so that he can then pass it on to children of his own one day.
Our family piano belonged to my great-grandfather and is at least 100 years old. He purchased the piano from the Good Pasture Church in a small mountain town called Beulah, Colorado in the early 1920s. To transport the piano (a large, upright Ivers & Pond), he somehow managed to lift it onto the bed of a pickup truck and drove it about 30 miles to his home in Pueblo. It swayed the whole way home! Graps (my great-grandfather) played piano and organ by ear. When he would play, he would often take his cigarette and place it on the side of the keyboard where you can still see the nicotine stains on the topmost key to this day. You can see it in the video posted below. :)

"I have a 45 year old piano that has a great deal of sentimental value as it is the piano my dad gave me as a young girl. Me and my children have learned to love and play music at this piano. Unfortunately, the piano had taken a beating as we have moved cross country multiple times. My dad recently passed away and I wanted to restore the piano. A friend of mine recommended Brigham Larson Pianos and I’m so glad she did. The entire restoration process has been amazing. They listened to what I wanted, made recommendations and kept me updated every step of the way. Today they delivered my piano and I am thrilled with the restoration! It is absolutely beautiful and is exactly what I envisioned! From pickup to delivery the people at Brigham Larson Pianos have been extraordinary! Thank you for restoring a piece of my childhood and a piece of my heart. It is beautiful!" —Kellie Bray

"I can't say enough good things about Brigham Larson Pianos. I inherited a baby grand piano that no one else wanted because it needed significant refurbishing. I researched my options thoroughly. I called all over the country to get estimates. Then someone recommended Brigham Larson, which was just a town away. Not only was Brigham's estimate very reasonable compared to other restorers, but the customer service was incredible. Brigram and his whole staff were great to work with. They kept me informed all along the way. And my piano turned out gorgeous! It looks beautiful and sounds fantastic! Thank you, Brigham Larson, for brining my piano back to life! It will be treasured by family for several more generations!" —Bonnye Wallace

"Brigham Larson is by far the best place for piano restoration! The entire team was kind and informative throughout the process. I was able to meet with Brigham personally and talk about the best options for restoration vs. refurbishment of a 100yr heirloom piano. I never felt pressured to do one or the other. He was honest and truly an expert. We were able to put together a custom plan to fit our family’s needs. The sound and quality is amazing. Highly recommend!" - Amy Card
