The Novello Family Piano!
The Novello Family Piano!
I started out with a basic electric piano, but always had a desire to see the workings of a piano. I then learned trombone in elementary school, continued studying it through college and still try to join in the community concert band when I can. While studying in college I was also able to spend more time with pianos learning to love them even more. After I bought my own house to raise my family in, I wanted to get a piano for my children to grow up with and have access to so that they might find the joy of music as I did. In the fall of 2018 we were driving down a street we normally wouldn’t be on and on the porch was a piano with a sign that said “free, you move.” A few friends were available to help so we picked it up and brought it to our home. The previous owner stated that if I hadn’t come that day he was going to drag it into a field and burn it. Based on the writing on the keys, the piano was originally purchased and brought to Yreka, California in 1909. I don't know any of its travels or owners since it came to my town, but given the wear on the keys, it has brought plenty music to whoever it was. Over the six years that I have had this piano it has served well to teach my children the basics of music. With or without a restoration, this piano is now part of my family. I will keep it as long as I am alive and hope others can enjoy it long after.
