I am a 4th generation piano player in my family, and am entering this giveaway on behalf of my mom. I grew up knowing the importance of music, and have fond memories being woken up Sunday mornings by the sound of my mother playing religious music on our piano. 

Music has always been a part of my life. From learning how to perform in front of others at piano recitals, playing for my grandparents on their piano whenever we went to visit them, to still enjoying playing duets with my mom it is a skill I will cherish forever. My daughter has recently started learning how to play (she, in fact, just recently had a recital in your performance room), and I look forward to the day when I can share this talent with her as well. 

My mother often recalls a memory she has of one evening spent playing Christmas carols with her grandfather and uncle. Her on the piano, her grandfather on his harmonica, and her uncle on the violin. She says it might not  have been the most conventional of instrument pairing, but the music was pure and beautiful enough to have stuck with her all these years. 

The story goes that at the end of the Great Depression, my great grandfather approached my great grandmother and told her they they had enough money to finally buy a car. Her response was, “well if we have enough money to buy a car, then we definitely have enough to buy a piano”. They lived in Wyoming at the time, so my great grandmother called a piano store located in Ogden, Utah and the owner packed up three pianos on a truck, drove them to her house, and let her pick out the one she wanted.  

With humble beginnings, this piano has been responsible for the learning of dozens of musicians, myself included.

It is beautifully crafted and truly a family heirloom. However, close to 100 years of use has definitely taken its toll. The original ivory keys have chipped, the wooden black keys are worn, and there is some unfortunate water damage to the legs from a house flood some decades ago. In addition, every time the pedal is used it squeaks loudly, and while this adds to the character of the piano, it doesn’t necessarily compliment every song played. 

I’d love to see this piano restored to its original glory so that it can be enjoyed for another 100 years. Thank you for your consideration!
