Collection: Friedrich Prein Pianos

As a piano technician and rebuilder, I’ve come across a lot of instruments over the years—but Friedrich Prein pianos stand out for their old-world German craftsmanship and historical value. Founded in 1857 in Cologne, Germany, the Friedrich Prein company produced high-quality upright pianos that were built to last, with beautifully constructed cabinetry and solid internal components. These pianos are rare today, but when they do come through our shop, I always take notice.

Friedrich Prein wasn’t just a piano builder—they also operated as dealers for major brands like Steinway, which tells you something about the level of clientele they served. Most of the Friedrich Prein pianos I’ve seen have a very traditional aesthetic and a warm, rich tone typical of late 19th- and early 20th-century German instruments. If you're fortunate enough to have a Friedrich Prein piano, whether it’s a family heirloom or a unique vintage find, it’s absolutely worth restoring.

At Brigham Larson Pianos, we specialize in bringing historic pianos like these back to life. If you’re looking for Friedrich Prein piano restoration, or if you’re simply curious about its history and quality, we’d love to talk. These pianos are a window into another era of piano building—and they deserve a second life.
