Collection: Merrill Pianos

Merrill & Company was an American piano manufacturer founded in 1885 in Boston, Massachusetts, during the height of the United States’ golden age of piano building. Boston was one of the most important centers of piano manufacturing in the late 19th century, home to many respected piano makers and suppliers.

Merrill & Company produced upright and grand pianos designed for homes, teaching studios, and community music making. Like many piano manufacturers of the period, the company focused on building instruments that combined durable construction, responsive actions, and warm tonal character suited for the popular music of the era.

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, pianos were an essential part of American households, and manufacturers such as Merrill & Company supplied instruments to families and musicians across the country through regional dealers and piano showrooms.

Although Merrill & Company eventually ceased operations as the American piano industry consolidated in the early 20th century, surviving Merrill pianos remain examples of late-19th-century American piano craftsmanship. Today these instruments are often appreciated as antique pianos with historical character, and when properly restored or maintained, they can continue to provide music and enjoyment for many years.
