Collection: Wellington Pianos

Wellington pianos were produced by the Cable Piano Company, one of the largest and most successful piano manufacturers in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Cable Company was founded in 1880 by H.D. Cable in Chicago, and it quickly became known for building well-crafted American pianos. ()

The Wellington name was introduced around 1885 as a more affordable piano line while still maintaining the craftsmanship and musical quality associated with Cable instruments. () Many Wellington pianos were built as uprights and player pianos and were designed to provide dependable performance for homes across America.

Because they were built by the respected Cable Piano Company, Wellington pianos developed a reputation for solid construction, attractive cabinetry, and pleasing tone. These instruments remained in production for several decades and were widely sold throughout the United States.

Production of Wellington pianos continued until the mid-20th century, ending around 1953 after changes in the American piano industry and company ownership. ()

Today, many Wellington pianos still exist as vintage American uprights and player pianos, and when properly restored they can continue to provide beautiful music and historic character for modern homes.
