This 1980 Young Chang G-185 is a 6'1" grand piano that has been fully refurbished on the inside and refinished on the outside in a satin black cabinet.

At 6'1", this is a substantial piano. You get longer strings and a larger soundboard, which translates into stronger bass, better sustain, and more overall tonal depth compared to smaller grands. This size works very well for homes, studios, and more advanced players who want a fuller sound.

The cabinet has been completely refinished in satin black, and the finish turned out very well. It has a clean, understated look that I personally prefer in many cases—it gives the piano a more refined, less reflective appearance than a high-gloss finish.

On the inside, this piano has gone through a very thorough refurbishment process. This includes repinning throughout the action, hammer reshaping, alignment, lubrication, tightening, knuckle work, and full regulation. The goal is to bring the piano back to a highly consistent level of performance—functionally very close to new.

That level of preparation makes a significant difference. The action feels solid and responsive, with what I would describe as a slightly “meaty” touch—something you can really play into and control.

Tonally, it has a full, rich sound with good depth and presence. It’s a very usable, musical instrument across a wide range of playing styles.

What I like about this Young Chang G-185:

    • 6'1" grand — strong bass, sustain, and tonal depth
    • Fully refurbished action for consistent, reliable performance
    • Solid, responsive “meaty” touch
    • Full, rich tone with good presence
    • Satin black cabinet — clean, refined finish

After refurbishment, this piano is in its optimal performance window again and has decades of reliable use ahead of it.

As with every piano in my shop, it has gone through final prep—regulation refinement, voicing, and tuning to A-440—so it performs the way it should.
