The Lux Family Piano!
The Lux Family Piano!
Piano was the center of the home all of my childhood. It was often my mother's fingers dancing across the keys. One of my earliest memories was singing "A whole new world" at the piano with my mom. From hymns to Disney to Mozart to every emotion being pounded out on the keys. Music was expression, it connected is and distinguished us from each other. Each of my siblings had "their" song. The one that jumped off their fingers with the familiarity of an old friend. Mine was Pachelbel's Canon in D. And when it rang through the house, everyone knew whose fingers pressed the keys. Sometimes loud sometimes syrupy, sometimes rushed, like a story told for the hundredth time, each time a a little different from the last. I dont know what my life would've been without piano. But even today as adults with children of our own, when I see my sister she still says "come sing with" and together we sit at our grandmother's piano and pour our hearts out through our fingers and our lungs with laughter and tears and that moment of realizing that this is what "family" means to me.
It was my grandmother's, my mother has played it all her life. It is a precious family heirloom.
