The Morrill Family Piano!
The Morrill Family Piano!
Our whole family is musical. My late wife was a piano and theory major in college and taught privately for many years. One granddaughter is a composer and has won several awards for her compositions. She started piano lessons wife my wife on this piano. Over the years many students have had lessons on this piano. I still play it for pleasure and would love to have it in restored condition, although it is not bad now. (I have a video of me playing it but cannot get it to load.) Having owned it for 58 years I would hate to see it deteriorate to the place that nobody wants it and it ends up being junked. it has a beautiful case that just needs refinishing. One restorer told me that pianos like this that are no longer manufactured they usually just take to the dump.
We purchased this piano shortly after my late wife and I were married in 1966. My wife was piano and theory major in college and needed a piano to practice and teach on. She taught on this piano until the effects of her stroke prevented her from teaching. All of our children learned on this piano, as well as most of our grandchildren. One of our granddaughters just graduated with a degree in composition and has won several awards for her compositions. She also is a very accomplished pianist as well as being quite proficient on several other instruments as well. Our desire has been to pass this on to her or another family member in good condition to keep it in the family and make it possible for future generations to learn on as well. It is in need of a good refinishing plus some internal work like rust removal from some of the strings, although it plays well and sounds pretty good even after numerous moves.
