Every Piano Has a Story: The 2024 Piano Legacy Project FREE Piano Restoration Winner!
Brigham Larson PianosShare
After more than three decades in the piano restoration world, I’ve learned one simple truth — every piano has a story worth saving. Some pianos arrive in our Orem, Utah shop covered in dust, their keys silent for decades. But inside each one is a legacy waiting to be rediscovered. That’s the heart behind our Piano Legacy Project restoration piano program — a way to preserve music, memories, and craftsmanship for generations to come.
The Piano Legacy Project: Restoring More Than Just Pianos
Last year, my team and I at Brigham Larson Pianos invited families from across the country to share their piano’s story. One of those families was selected to receive a complete, free piano restoration through the Piano Legacy Project.
Our goal is simple: to honor the heritage behind every piano and to give new life to the music that once filled their homes. From worn-out uprights to century-old grand pianos, we’ve seen how powerful it can be when a family hears their piano play like new again.
Last year’s 2024 Piano Legacy Project restoration piano winner — the Sandburg family — reminded us why we do this work.

The Sandburg Family’s Story: A Piano Reborn
When we first heard from Sara Sandburg, her story moved our entire shop. Her grandmother was a lifelong pianist — the kind who could play any tune, in any key, by ear. She played for her family, her church, her neighbors — for anyone who needed a song. Her music still echoed through the memories of those she touched.
Our team of nearly 20 piano rebuilders got to work on this remarkable 1907 Smith & Nixon — an American-built upright piano that had seen generations of love. We replaced every string, tuning pin, damper, hammer, and felt. We refinished the keys, adjusted the action, and brought its tone back to life.
When the Sandburg family saw the finished piano for the first time, emotions ran high. It wasn’t just a piano — it was their mother’s legacy restored.

National Piano Restoration Services
While many of our piano restorations are local, I want piano owners everywhere to know — we offer national piano restoration services. Whether your piano is across town or across the country, our team can transport, restore, and return your instrument with the same care and craftsmanship we bring to every project here in Utah.
We regularly coordinate piano pickups and deliveries nationwide, handling the entire process from secure transport to full rebuild and final tuning. If you have a piano with deep family meaning — even if it’s been untouched for decades — we can help you bring it back to life through a professional restoration process.
National Piano Moving by Piano Experts
Unlike generic moving companies, our national piano moving service is operated by piano professionals who understand the delicate mechanics and history behind each piano. From grand pianos to vintage uprights, our moving crews ensure your piano is protected from the moment it leaves your home until it arrives safely at our restoration shop and back to you after the rebuild.
We use specialized equipment and decades of experience handling pianos of every shape, size, and age. Whether you’re relocating or shipping your piano to us for restoration, we’ll treat it as if it were our own.
Why Restoration Matters
To me, piano restoration is about more than rebuilding wood and strings — it’s about preserving history, emotion, and artistry. Each piano tells a story about the people who played it, the songs that shaped them, and the moments they shared.
When we restore a piano, we’re not just reviving an instrument — we’re keeping music alive in homes and hearts across America.
