IN THE SHOP: Custom Player System Installation on a Hailun V126 Upright

At our piano shop, we’re regularly customizing pianos—whether that’s upgrading electronics, adjusting finishes, or retrofitting modern player systems into heirloom uprights and brand-new instruments. One of our recent projects involved a high-end Hailun V126 upright piano from the Vienna Series, where we installed a state-of-the-art QRS player system. It’s a beautiful blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

Why the Hailun V126?

This isn’t your average upright. The V126 is part of Hailun’s Vienna line—their top-tier vertical piano series designed to compete with high-end European brands like Bechstein or Steinway, but at a fraction of the cost. The action is precise, the tone is rich and warm, and the cabinetry is refined. One standout feature is the aluminum keybed, which offers permanent dimensional stability—something wooden keybeds simply can’t match over the long term.

The Player System Integration

Integrating a player system into a piano like this is no small feat. Unlike digital instruments, where electronics are built in from the start, an acoustic upright like the V126 has to be carefully adapted. These systems require ultra-precise alignment.

This particular install also involved fabricating a mounting block out of pinblock material—the toughest wood you’ll find in a piano—for the pedal solenoid, which engages the damper mechanism electronically. There’s a lot of custom engineering involved, and that’s a big part of the fun for us.

Control Options and Tech Features

Once installed, the player system can be controlled by a dedicated touchscreen or via your smartphone. You can cue up music to match the mood—whether it’s a quiet evening or a family gathering.
